Build or Buy - What is Your Strategy for Talent?



Every year you know you are going to need 10 new team leaders.  What is your strategy?  Do you put in place learning, development and role experiences to build the team leaders you need?  Or, do you go out to the marketplace and buy the required talent?  Build or Buy is a very mature concept in HR, but the game has gotten much tougher.  People Matters recently published an article called Talent Gaps: Should you buy or build talent strategy?

With key points like - 

Build talent when the focus is on areas like increasing stability through retention or the need to build legacy knowledge

Buy talent strategy when the focus is on Unique or highly specialized skills 0rIdentifying  the right candidate in a short span of time
