Even feminists show bias against female leaders

We all have unconscious bias whether it is making an assumption when someone talks about what a nurse has done we visual a women (when it could be a man) or someone complains about their car mechanic we think they must be male.  Unconscious bias can be a far more difficult to remove from a company's hiring and promotion processes.

Training can help to reduce bias but it focuses on raising awareness not overcoming bias. This is mainly because what is happening is unconscious but also because individuals are generally poor at being aware of their own thoughts and tend to underestimate their impact on others.  This HR Zone article by Jan Hills has some excellent insights into unconscious bias and a few tips on how to recognise and manage.
