The 9 Box Model - Is It Still Relevent?

One of the models that has been my "go to" for many years is the 9 Box Model.  It is easy for people manager to understand, it can create great discussion regarding the calibre (or not) of an employee.  While the boxes themselves are interesting, I have always found that the discussion, actions and review of talent within an organisation that is facilitated by the 9 Box Model to be constructive in identifying and building talent in the team.

The 9 Box Model looks at performance and potential.  The challenge to the model is that past performance is not an indicator of future performance. This thought-provoking article published in Talent Economy presents alternatives (or additions) to the 9 Box Model.  Some ideas for talent managers to add to their toolkit of how to get the right discussion going regarding the current and future potential of employees in your organisations.
