How to Fact Check - Tutorial

It is getting harder and harder to determine what is fact and what is "alternative facts".  How does someone check out a statement to determine whether it is fact or fiction?  The Guardian published a lovely article on how to do your own research to determine whether something said is fact or not.  While the inspiration for the article was the current happenings within the USA government, the research process would be the same for anything someone was trying to validate.   It has some very good reminders about ensuring that your units of measures are the same for comparisons, you are picking data from similar time frames and most importantly from reputable sources.

The case study for the research was some of the recent comments made regarding the murder rate in Chicago Illinois USA.
